Where is the school?
Cronopios Idiomas is a short walk away from Retiro Park and Madrid’s most important museums: Museo del Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza.
Is it an officially recognised school?
Cronopios Idiomas is a young school established in 2012, but it has already been accredited by Instituto Cervantes and is a DELE Inscription Centre.
What is the average age of the students?
The average age of our students is between 20 and 35 years, although there are always older students and our experience is that they feel perfectly comfortable and integrated in our classes.
Minimum registration age is 16.
Where are the students from?
We are an international school; our students come from all corners of the world.
When should I enrol on a course?
As long as there’s availability for the course you’re interested in, we accept last minute enrolments, that is, the Friday prior to the beginning of the course.
Do I have to pay in advance to book the course?
You don’t need to pay for your course in advance. You can pay on the first day and save on bank transfer fees.
At the school, you can pay in cash or by card.
What if I have to cancel before the beginning of the course?
Paying in advance is not mandatory, but if the students are willing to do it when they book their course, no charge for cancellation will be applied as long as the cancellation is done at least 21 days prior to the date of the start of the course. 50% of the total fees will be returned for cancellations 21 days prior to the date of the start of the course. Fees cannot be refunded for courses or parts of courses missed due to late arrival, illness, early departure and/or other circumstances that do not form part of the cancellation policy.
Students requiring a visa must pay 30% of the course in advance. In the event of student visa refusal, 100% of the total amount of the course will be refunded, with the exception of administrative costs (bank transfer charges, fax, etc), as long as the cancellation is done within at least 21 days prior to arrival. For the return of the payment advanced before the rejection of the visa application, the student must notify us in writing and attach the official notification (including date, seal and signature) issued by the Spanish Embassy or Consulate. In the official notification of refusal, the student’s name, passport number and the visa requested are clearly shown.

What is included in the price of the course and the registration fee?
Included in the price of the course and the registration:
- Administrative expenses.
- Real course hours.
- Cultural activities.
- Small groups: twelve students at the most.
- Spanish level test before the course.
- Course book and learning materials.
- Free access to WI-FI and computers in the common room.
- Free access to our library and video library.
Is insurance included in my course?
You don’t have insurance included on your course. If you want to buy a travel or health insurance (not necessary for EU citizens), we can help you with that.
I don´t speak a word of Spanish, how can I start the course?
Until you feel comfortable speaking in Spanish, we will make sure we can understand each other. There are people on our team that speak several languages (English, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Italian…), and we are happy to adapt to your needs.
Have in mind that you will speak Spanish from the first day, even as a complete beginner. Our Spanish classes are very communicative and you will be surprised at how fast you learn the language.
Many of our students are complete beginners, but communication in Spanish starts to happen very quickly.
Is there a minimum age to enrol?
The minimum age is 16. In exceptional occasions, we might accept under 16s, but never younger than 14.
How long is one class?
Many schools talk about one hour classes, but that doesn´t mean one class is one real hour. When we talk about an hour of class, we are talking about a full 60 minutes, not a 45 or 50 minute class.
Do I need to know some Spanish before starting a course?
No. If you don´t know a word in Spanish, you can join a complete beginners course. If you have previous knowledge we will send you a Spanish level test before starting, along with the details of your course, which must be completed and sent back to us at least a week before the start of your course.
When can I start my course?
New students start their course every Monday.
If you are a complete beginner, you can start on the given dates for complete beginners. If you have previous knowledge of Spanish, you must first complete a level test, and once completed, we will confirm your level and start date.
When do I receive confirmation of my enrolment on and reservation of the course?
We will send you the confirmation of enrolment, which is a document with all the details of your course and accommodation (if applicable), once you´ve sent us the data we have requested (name, address, passport number, type of course, number of weeks, etc).
The contract is signed the first day of school, after the payment.
Who should I talk to if I still have more questions?

Can I change my course and/or level once the course has started?
If you find that the level of the class you are in is too high or too low, your teacher will be open to discussing what the best option would be in your case.
A change of course must be discussed with our administration staff, who will try to adapt things to your needs.
What about public holidays?
On public holidays, either national or local holidays, the school is closed. For long term contracts, we don´t make up for the classes missed, since their price is already reduced due to special discounts. For short term contracts, we will not charge you for the days the school is closed.
What happens on the first day of school?
If you are a complete beginner, we recommend you come 15 minutes before the start of the class.
We will show you our premises, and you will also sign the contract and receive your learning materials.
Classes start at 10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. Every Monday we give a small presentation of the school and the activities, followed by a welcoming appetizer at 13:20.
Do I get a certificate at the end of my course?
All the students get a certificate of attendance (attending at least 80% of course lessons) and a Level certificate at the end of the course. Our school is accredited by Instituto Cervantes but keep in mind that only the certificates issued by Instituto Cervantes after doing the DELE exam are official certificates.
What kind of accommodation do you offer?
Our school has its own Accommodation Network, made up of families and individuals that have passed a selection process including a visit to their homes from the person responsible for the Accommodation Network at our school.
You can also request information for sharing a flat. We collaborate with Uniplaces over the accommodation in shared flats. Uniplaces provides flats located in some of the most popular neighborhoods in Madrid. You can choose a flat yourself or ask us for help.
Regarding hotels or residences, we can help you to find this kind of accommodation at a reasonable price. Just tell us your needs and we’ll recommend you the lodging that would suit you best.
When should I book the accommodation?
We recommend that you book it along with the course. At least two weeks in advance is wise, since Madrid is a popular destination and we want to have enough time to secure you the best option.
When do I receive the details of my accommodation?
Along with your course information. This includes a map, the address, phone number, etc.
When can I arrive at my accommodation?
If you are staying with a Spanish family, your stay is booked from the Sunday before the start of the course to the Saturday after the end of the course.
The arrival time should be confirmed by the student in advance.
For home-stays, can I book additional nights?
Yes, extra nights, always with breakfast included, cost 25€ per night or 20€ for a double room. Please make sure to see our prices before booking.
Is it possible to bring friends to the accommodation for a visit?
It depends on the rules of the house. Usually yes, but make sure you ask before bringing anyone back to your place.
Where is the accommodation located?
Our Accommodation Network has accommodation in the city centre and in well-connected neighborhoods. Just tell us your preferences in the accommodation questionnaire and we will try to find the place that suits you best.
Are towels and bed linen included?
In home-stay accommodation, yes.
What about the cleaning and laundry?
In home-stay accommodation, yes.
Shared-flats, usually not but you have to consult the rules.
Do they consider special needs?
Of course. There’s an accommodation questionnaire that will be sent to you before booking in order to know your preferences. Just include anything we should know.
Who should I talk with regarding the arrival time?
With the school, the moment you book your accommodation. We will inform the family of your home-stay and give you their contact details in advance. In any case, you can call us Monday to Friday 09:00 a.m to 18:00 p.m (+34) 915222014, and there is a number for the weekends that will be sent to you in advance.
Regarding the shared-flats, it depends. Uniplaces will get you all the information you need.
Can I book an accommodation without booking a course?
No.
Are the bills included (water/electricity/WIFI)?
In the case of home-stay accommodation, yes. For shared-flats, it depends on the flat.
If I find alternative accommodation, can I cancel my booking before arrival?
Yes, as long as you tell us long enough in advance. Please make sure to read the terms and conditions.
Does the school take any kind of responsibility if there´s a problem regarding my accommodation?
As stated in our accommodation terms and conditions, the school will act as a mediator in the event of a problem, conflict, or the like between the student and a family. The school commits to making your stay as smooth and comfortable as possible, and should any kind of problem arise, the staff of the Accommodation Network will visit the house if needed.
How can I get to Madrid?
Madrid is a well-connected capital. You can arrive by train or bus from almost any city of Spain, large or small. There are also trains from Marseille, Paris and Lisbon. Atocha, the main train station in Madrid is a ten minute walk from the school.
Madrid has one of the most active airports in Europe, so it won´t be hard for you to find a flight here.
How is the public transport in Madrid?
Public transportation in Madrid reaches every corner of the city, and is not expensive. Madrid is proud to have one of the biggest and oldest Metros in the world. You can buy a transport card for several days, thirteen days or just a number of trips.
Is Madrid big?
It is the biggest city in Spain, but it’s not as big as London or Paris. More than 3 million people live here, but everyone agrees that we can make you feel at home.
I need a visa, what is the procedure to enrol and obtain a confirmation letter from the school?
Citizens of the European Union do not need any type of visa to attend courses.
Non-EU citizens must obtain information about the requirements to study in Spain from a Spanish Embassy or Consulate. Generally, eight weeks’ notice is required for visa confirmation.
If the student requests an invitation letter from the school to apply for a visa, they must make an advance payment before the school sends the requested documentation, except for the special conditions of each country. This payment can be made via bank transfer or directly at the school.
Once the payment has been received, the invitation letter will be sent by email to the student. Any administrative costs incurred (such as bank transfer fees) will be included in the contract and must be paid on the first day of the course. This applies to both individual students and group programs. The student is responsible at all times for the process of applying for their visa.
In summary, these are the steps you have to follow in order to get a school certificate:
- Course confirmation: total number of weeks to study, start and end date.
- Student details: Full name, a passport copy and address in Madrid.
- Cronopios will send a draft of the documents for the student to check that everything is correct.
- Once all is ok, we will need to receive the agreed initial payment.
- Once the payment is processed, Cronopios will send the documents in PDF format with a digital signature if necessary.
- Any other documents required by the Spanish Embassy in your home country (such as travel insurance) should be confirmed with the Spanish Embassy or Consulate there.
What if my visa is denied?
If the student can’t take the course because their visa has been denied, the total amount of the course will be reimbursed with the exception of any kind of administrative expense (€250), as long as the cancellation is made at least 21 working days prior to the start of the course. In order to receive the refund, Cronopios Idiomas has to be contacted by letter or email.
The student must send us the official letter of denial (with date, signature, and seal) issued by a Spanish Consulate or Embassy, clearly showing their name, passport number, and the visa requested.
