Madrid, with a population of 3 million, is a city whose streets bustle with activity and stimulating cultural life. Despite being Spain’s biggest city, it retains the character of a small town, felt for instance, in the intense life of its distinct neighborhood.

It is a university city as well, receiving thousands of students during the year, either Europeans enjoying their Erasmus or Leonardo scholarships, or Asians trying their luck far away from home. There are also many academic researchers, since Madrid is home to some of the most important libraries and archives in Spain.

Las Letras, the neighborhood where our Spanish language school in Madrid is located, is one of the oldest in Madrid. Right in the center of the city, it´s just ten minutes away from Puerta del Sol (walking distance) and is also very near Paseo del Prado, a broad avenue known as Paseo del Arte (Art Walk), where three of the most important museums in Europe are to be found: Prado Museum, Thyssen Museum, and Reina Sofia Art Center and Museum.

Our neighborhood has a rich history: during the XVII century was home to, amongst others, Cervantes, Quevedo and Lope de Vega. The latter’s house has survived until the present day and has been turned into a beautiful little museum. Walking down the streets you find quotes of the most renowned Spanish writers, hence the name of the neighborhood (Las Letras means “The Letters”).

Today, all of this history is combined with vibrant cultural activity, busy pubs and restaurants, shops and modern art galleries. This neighborhood is alive and waiting for you.
